This site’s algorithm is very interesting. It scans over blogs, torrents, you tube and tweets, etc. to find out what the Internet’s”top” songs are. Image when someone creates this for all mediums such as movies, photos, tv shows, books, news, videogames, etc….(I’m assuming there are other sites similar to this on the internet for other media mediums). This site made me think about the ability to gather information across the Internet and display the results. Somewhere in the possible future, think of making a site that allowed the user to input what information they wanted updated on one page. Very much like a futuristic iGoogle page, this site would allow the user to gather any information across the web such as their email, rss feeds (newspaper’s blogs included), social site updates, calendar, and the top media sites. The first feature would allow the user to easily copy a live stream link to sites, such as Facebook status and Tweets, without having to actually go the sites. The feature, like an uber-Seesmic Desktop, would allow the pulling of live updates to any site. Also the system would allow the user to sync updates on selected sites, such as a Facebook “what’s on your mind” or a tweet, maybe a MySpace status update. And once the Mozilla Ubquity search bar is updated by users, in combinations with the feature, the possibilities are amazing.

For myself, watching tv shows on a tv is becoming less and less of an importance. When I was living at my parents house during high school, my family bought a DVR system, requiring me to set up what shows I wanted to watch. This system changed my devotion to watching tv shows on their original air time. But often I was too busy with my schedule or simply forgot to record my shows (especially ones that weren’t in a series), and I would miss my shows. There are now apps that fix the “forget to record” problem by allowing one to set up their DVR systems from their phones, but they weren’t around at the time. When I moved to college, I began streaming my shows online, requiring me to not have to recorded the show, and with less commercials. But I still had to be at a computer with the internet to watch my shows. Many iPhone apps like tv.com and the upcoming hulu app will allow streaming to the iPhone, allowing me to watch my shows on my own time, anywhere. I noticed that the tv.com app streams to the iPhone in small packages, which interrupts the show every 5 or so minutes. But I have found a new useful feature on the YouTube website (not the app), the shows feature. With this feature, I can watch legal shows and movies streamed to my iPhone. This works because the iPhone can play YouTube videos of any size. I see the future of tv shows becoming more and more about the user watching their shows in a system similar to rss feeds, allowing the user to watch their shows anywhere anytime (at least where there is phone service).

Firefox’s abilities

So today, I realised the potential that Mozilla’s Firefox has being an open source browser with a fairly large community. I was previously a fan of Google’s new Chrome browser, but am now switching to Firefox. I am using a skin that looks like the chrome browser and added many new features that are simply genius. I feel that Firefox’s weakness lies not in what it can do with extensions and add-ons, but in the fact that basic users lack the knowledge of many ideas of such extensions, like macros, or grease monkey. I believe one day that programmers can build programs to that the “normal” user can utilize these features more intuitively.

This is my first blog post. I am starting this blog as an assignment for my info 200 course in the spring of 2009, but I plan on updating this blog after the class. I want to start this blog by talking about things I “perceive” to be interesting in my life, including links to other blog and websites, after which I’ll comment on those topics. I am posting this from my iPhone.
